phpMyFAQ has stored XSS via | raw Filter in search.twig — html_entity_decode(strip_tags()) Bypass in Search Result Rendering
CVE-2026-46361GHSA-pqh6-8fxf-jx22
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (phpmyfaq/phpmyfaq 4.1.2; thorsten/phpmyfaq 4.1.2), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary The search result rendering template (search.twig) outputs FAQ content fields result.question and result.answerPreview using Twig's | raw filter, which completely disables the template engine's built-in auto-escaping. A user with FAQ editor/contributor privileges can store a payload encoded as HTML entities. During search result construction, htmlentitydecode(striptags(...)) restores the raw HTML tags — bypassing striptags() — and the restored payload is injected into every visitor's browser via the | raw output. This vulnerability is distinct from GHSA-cv2g-8cj8-vgc7 (affects faq.twig, bypass via regex mismatch in Filter::removeAttributes()) and is not addressed by the 4.1.1 patch. --- Affected Files | File | Location | Issue | |---|---|---| | phpmyfaq/assets/templates/default/search.twig | lines rendering result.question, result.answerPreview | (Vertical Bar) raw disables autoescape | | phpmyfaq/src/phpMyFAQ/Controller/Api/SearchController.php | search result processing…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-46361 Advisory: phpMyFAQ has stored XSS via | raw Filter in search.twig — html_entity_decode(strip_tags()) Bypass in Search Result Rendering IDs: CVE-2026-46361, GHSA-pqh6-8fxf-jx22 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-46361 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:48 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.9) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: phpmyfaq/phpmyfaq 4.1.2; thorsten/phpmyfaq 4.1.2. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Packagist phpmyfaq/phpmyfaq: affected <= 4.1.1; fixed in 4.1.2 - Packagist thorsten/phpmyfaq: affected <= 4.1.1; fixed in 4.1.2 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Packagist phpmyfaq/phpmyfaq: check the installed version with your package manager. - Packagist thorsten/phpmyfaq: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on phpmyfaq/phpmyfaq, thorsten/phpmyfaq. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-pqh6-8fxf-jx22 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-pqh6-8fxf-jx22 lists affected ranges: Packagist phpmyfaq/phpmyfaq >=0 =0 <=4.1.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
