Read-Only Open WebUI Users Can Modify Collaborative Documents via Socket.IO
CVE-2026-44564GHSA-vrfh-rj4q-rmhr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (open-webui 0.9.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Read-Only Users Can Modify Collaborative Documents via Socket.IO Affected Component Socket.IO collaborative document editing handler: - backend/openwebui/socket/main.py (lines 667-721, ydoc:document:update handler) Affected Versions Current main branch and likely all versions with collaborative note editing. Description The ydoc:document:update Socket.IO event handler checks whether the sender is a member of the document's Socket.IO room (line 678) but does not verify that the sender has write permission. Users with read-only access join the document room via ydoc:document:join, which only requires read permission (line 520). Once in the room, the user can emit ydoc:document:update events that modify the in-memory Yjs document state and are broadcast to all other collaborators in real time. The documentsavehandler (line 600) correctly checks write permission before persisting to the database, so the attacker cannot directly save changes. However, the tampered content is visible to…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-44564 Advisory: Read-Only Open WebUI Users Can Modify Collaborative Documents via Socket.IO IDs: CVE-2026-44564, GHSA-vrfh-rj4q-rmhr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-44564 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:45 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.4) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: open-webui 0.9.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI open-webui: affected <= 0.8.12; fixed in 0.9.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show open-webui`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on open-webui. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-vrfh-rj4q-rmhr (OSV record GHSA-vrfh-rj4q-rmhr lists affected ranges: PyPI open-webui >=0 <0.9.0 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-vrfh-rj4q-rmhr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-vrfh-rj4q-rmhr lists affected ranges: PyPI open-webui >=0 <=0.8.12) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
