Gotenberg has an unauthenticated denial of service via echo.Context pool reuse in webhook async goroutine
CVE-2026-42594GHSA-r33j-c622-r6qp
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/gotenberg/gotenberg/v8 8.32.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary The webhook middleware spawns a goroutine that holds a reference to the request's echo.Context after the synchronous handler returns ErrAsyncProcess and Echo recycles the context back to its sync.Pool. When a concurrent request claims the recycled context, c.Reset() clears the store. If the webhook goroutine reaches hardTimeoutMiddleware at that moment, an unchecked type assertion on a nil store entry panics outside any recover() scope, crashing the Gotenberg process. Any anonymous caller reaches the webhook path (default webhook-deny-list filters only the webhook destination, not the submitter). A single-source stress of ~24 webhook requests plus ~60 GET /version requests crashes the process in about two seconds. Details pkg/modules/webhook/middleware.go:338-382 starts the async goroutine and immediately returns api.ErrAsyncProcess to the caller: pkg/modules/api/middlewares.go:356-361 sees the sentinel, responds with 204 No Content, and lets Echo return c to the pool: Echo's…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-42594 Advisory: Gotenberg has an unauthenticated denial of service via echo.Context pool reuse in webhook async goroutine IDs: CVE-2026-42594, GHSA-r33j-c622-r6qp Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-42594 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:22 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.5) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/gotenberg/gotenberg/v8 8.32.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/gotenberg/gotenberg/v8: affected <= 8.31.0; fixed in 8.32.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/gotenberg/gotenberg/v8: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/gotenberg/gotenberg/v8. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-r33j-c622-r6qp (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-r33j-c622-r6qp lists affected ranges: Go github.com/gotenberg/gotenberg/v8 >=0 <=8.31.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
