Tauri has an Origin Confusion Issue that Allows Remote Pages to Invoke Local-Only IPC Commands
CVE-2026-42184GHSA-7gmj-67g7-phm9
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (tauri 2.11.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary A flaw in Tauri's islocalurl() function causes it to incorrectly classify remote URLs as trusted local origins on Windows and Android. On these systems, Tauri maps custom URI scheme protocols to http://<scheme.localhost/ because those platforms' WebView implementations cannot serve custom URI schemes directly. The issue is that Tauri's check to see if the origin is local, only checks the first subdomain of the URL. An attacker can abuse this by hosting a page on a domain whose subdomain matches the custom scheme of the application (e.g. http://app.attacker.com/)." Example: - Local URL: app://localhost/ → on Android/Windows: http://app.localhost/ - The check passes for any URL starting with http://app., including http://app.evil.com/ As a result, the attacker page can invoke backend commands that the developer intended to be accessible only to the app's own frontend and that are explicitly restricted from being called by external or remote origins. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-42184 Advisory: Tauri has an Origin Confusion Issue that Allows Remote Pages to Invoke Local-Only IPC Commands IDs: CVE-2026-42184, GHSA-7gmj-67g7-phm9 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-42184 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:42 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: tauri 2.11.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io tauri: affected >= 2.0.0, <= 2.11.0; fixed in 2.11.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io tauri: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on tauri. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-7gmj-67g7-phm9 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-7gmj-67g7-phm9 lists affected ranges: crates.io tauri >=2.0.0 <=2.11.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
