Spring Data: Unbounded property-path cache keyed by externally-supplied path string

CVE-2026-41695GHSA-88fw-v6x4-3f58

What to do

Partial vendor fix. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check back for a fix.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

src/main/java/org/springframework/data/mapping/context/PersistentPropertyPathFactory.java:175 · Unbounded Resource Allocation (Algorithmic DoS) Impact When a consuming module routes user-supplied dot-paths (sort parameters, projection paths, PATCH paths) through MappingContext.getPersistentPropertyPath(String, Class), each distinct string — including invalid ones — is cached forever. A remote attacker can send millions of requests with unique ?sort=aaaa<n values and grow the heap until the service OOMs. Description PersistentPropertyPathFactory.propertyPaths (line 53) is a ConcurrentHashMap<TypeAndPath, PathResolution populated by getPotentiallyCachedPath() (line 174-177) via computeIfAbsent. The key is (TypeInformation, rawPathString). Crucially, unresolvable paths are also cached (as PathResolution.unresolved, line 204) so that the same InvalidPersistentPropertyPath can be re-thrown — meaning every distinct garbage string an attacker sends creates a permanent entry. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-41695

Advisory: Spring Data: Unbounded property-path cache keyed by externally-supplied path string
IDs: CVE-2026-41695, GHSA-88fw-v6x4-3f58
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-41695 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:54 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 7.5)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Partial vendor fix; fixed versions by package: org.springframework.data:spring-data-commons 4.0.6, 3.5.12. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven org.springframework.data:spring-data-commons: affected >= 4.0.0, <= 4.0.5; >= 3.5.0, <= 3.5.11; >= 3.4.0, <= 3.4.13; fixed in 4.0.6, 3.5.12

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.springframework.data:spring-data-commons: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.springframework.data:spring-data-commons.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
