Admidio's Missing Authorization on Inventory Module Destructive Endpoints Allows Any Authenticated User to Delete Items

CVE-2026-41658GHSA-xqv4-xm7h-52cv

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (admidio/admidio 5.0.9), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary The Admidio inventory module enforces authorization for destructive operations (delete, retire, reinstate) only in the UI layer by conditionally rendering buttons. The backend POST handlers at modules/inventory.php for itemdelete, itemretire, itemreinstate, itempictureupload, itempicturesave, and itempicturedelete perform CSRF validation but never check whether the requesting user is an inventory administrator. Any authenticated user who can access the inventory module can permanently delete any inventory item and all its associated data. Details The inventory module applies a module-level access control check at modules/inventory.php:65-72 that determines whether a user can access the inventory module at all, based on the inventorymoduleenabled setting. In the default configuration (value 2), any logged-in user passes this check. The itemdelete handler at lines 381-397 only validates the CSRF token: There is no call to $gCurrentUser-isAdministratorInventory() before…

Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.5)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: admidio/admidio 5.0.9. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Packagist admidio/admidio: affected <= 5.0.8; fixed in 5.0.9

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist admidio/admidio: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on admidio/admidio.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-xqv4-xm7h-52cv (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-xqv4-xm7h-52cv lists affected ranges: Packagist admidio/admidio >=0 <=5.0.8)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
