Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary The SCP middleware in charm.land/wish/v2 is vulnerable to path traversal attacks. A malicious SCP client can read arbitrary files from the server, write arbitrary files to the server, and create directories outside the configured root directory by sending crafted filenames containing ../ sequences over the SCP protocol. Affected Versions - charm.land/wish/v2 — all versions through commit 72d67e6 (current main) - github.com/charmbracelet/wish — likely all v1 versions (same code pattern) Details Root Cause The fileSystemHandler.prefixed() method in scp/filesystem.go:42-48 is intended to confine all file operations to a configured root directory. However, it fails to validate that the resolved path remains within the root: When path contains ../ components, filepath.Clean resolves them but does not reject them. The subsequent filepath.Join(h.root, path) produces a path that escapes the root directory. Attack Vector 1: Arbitrary File Write (scp -t) When receiving files from a…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-41589 Advisory: Wish has SCP Path Traversal that allows arbitrary file read/write IDs: CVE-2026-41589, GHSA-xjvp-7243-rg9h Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-41589 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:20 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.6) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Partial vendor fix; fixed versions by package: charm.land/wish/v2 2.0.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go charm.land/wish/v2: affected < 2.0.1; fixed in 2.0.1 - Go github.com/charmbracelet/wish: affected <= 1.4.7 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go charm.land/wish/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. - Go github.com/charmbracelet/wish: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on charm.land/wish/v2, github.com/charmbracelet/wish. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-xjvp-7243-rg9h (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-xjvp-7243-rg9h lists affected ranges: Go charm.land/wish/v2 >=0 =0 <=1.4.7) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
