CVE-2026-41001GHSA-ggg2-9786-hwc8

What to do

Partial vendor fix. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check back for a fix.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Spring Boot's ArtemisEmbeddedConfigurationFactory uses a fixed, static path for the embedded Artemis message broker's data directory when no explicit path is configured. A local attacker on the same host can pre-create this predictable directory or place a symlink before the application starts. Affected versions: Spring Boot 4.0.0 through 4.0.6; 3.5.0 through 3.5.14; 3.4.0 through 3.4.16; 3.3.0 through 3.3.19; 2.7.0 through 2.7.33.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-41001

Advisory: Spring Boot: Predictable Temp Directory in Artemis Auto-configuration
IDs: CVE-2026-41001, GHSA-ggg2-9786-hwc8
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-41001 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:55 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Partial vendor fix; fixed versions by package: org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-autoconfigure 4.0.7, 3.5.15. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-autoconfigure: affected >= 4.0.0, <= 4.0.6; >= 3.5.0, <= 3.5.14; >= 3.4.0, <= 3.4.16; >= 3.3.0, <= 3.3.19; >= 2.7.0, <= 2.7.33; fixed in 3.5.15, 4.0.7

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-autoconfigure: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.springframework.boot:spring-boot-autoconfigure.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
