PraisonAIAgents: SSRF via unvalidated URL in web_crawl httpx fallback
CVE-2026-40160GHSA-qq9r-63f6-v542
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (praisonaiagents 1.5.128), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

| Field | Value | |---|---| | Severity | High | | Type | SSRF -- unvalidated URL in webcrawl httpx fallback allows internal network access | | Affected | src/praisonai-agents/praisonaiagents/tools/webcrawltools.py:133-180 | Summary webcrawl's httpx fallback path passes user-supplied URLs directly to httpx.AsyncClient.get() with followredirects=True and no host validation. An LLM agent tricked into crawling an internal URL can reach cloud metadata endpoints (169.254.169.254), internal services, and localhost. The response content is returned to the agent and may appear in output visible to the attacker. This fallback is the default crawl path on a fresh PraisonAI installation (no Tavily key, no Crawl4AI installed). Details The vulnerable code is in tools/webcrawltools.py:148-155: No scheme restriction, no hostname resolution, no private/link-local IP check. followredirects=True also means an attacker can use an open redirect on a public URL to bounce the request into internal…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-40160 Advisory: PraisonAIAgents: SSRF via unvalidated URL in `web_crawl` httpx fallback IDs: CVE-2026-40160, GHSA-qq9r-63f6-v542 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-40160 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:40 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: praisonaiagents 1.5.128. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI praisonaiagents: affected >= 0.13.23, < 1.5.128; fixed in 1.5.128 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show praisonaiagents`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on praisonaiagents. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qq9r-63f6-v542 (OSV record GHSA-qq9r-63f6-v542 lists affected ranges: PyPI praisonaiagents >=0.13.23 <1.5.128 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-qq9r-63f6-v542 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-qq9r-63f6-v542 lists affected ranges: PyPI praisonaiagents >=0.13.23 <1.5.128) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
