PraisonAI Vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery via Unvalidated webhook_url in Jobs API

CVE-2026-40114GHSA-8frj-8q3m-xhgm

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (praisonai 4.5.128), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary The /api/v1/runs endpoint accepts an arbitrary webhookurl in the request body with no URL validation. When a submitted job completes (success or failure), the server makes an HTTP POST request to this URL using httpx.AsyncClient. An unauthenticated attacker can use this to make the server send POST requests to arbitrary internal or external destinations, enabling SSRF against cloud metadata services, internal APIs, and other network-adjacent services. Details The vulnerability exists across the full request lifecycle: 1. User input accepted without validation — models.py:32: The field is a plain str with no URL validation — no scheme restriction, no host filtering. 2. Stored directly on the Job object — router.py:80-86: 3. Used in an outbound HTTP request — executor.py:385-415: 4. Triggered on both success and failure paths — executor.py:180-205: 5. No authentication on the Jobs API server — server.py:82-101: The createapp() function creates a FastAPI app with CORS allowing…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-40114

Advisory: PraisonAI Vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery via Unvalidated webhook_url in Jobs API
IDs: CVE-2026-40114, GHSA-8frj-8q3m-xhgm
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-40114 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:40 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 7.2)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: praisonai 4.5.128. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- PyPI praisonai: affected < 4.5.128; fixed in 4.5.128

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `python -m pip show praisonai`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on praisonai.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
