bsv-sdk ARC broadcaster treats INVALID/MALFORMED/ORPHAN responses as successful broadcasts
CVE-2026-40069GHSA-9hfr-gw99-8rhx
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (bsv-sdk 0.8.2), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

ARC broadcaster treats failure statuses as successful broadcasts Summary BSV::Network::ARC's failure detection only recognises REJECTED and DOUBLESPENDATTEMPTED. ARC responses with txStatus values of INVALID, MALFORMED, MINEDINSTALEBLOCK, or any ORPHAN-containing extraInfo / txStatus are silently treated as successful broadcasts. Applications that gate actions on broadcaster success are tricked into trusting transactions that were never accepted by the network. Details lib/bsv/network/arc.rb (lines ~74-100 in the affected code) uses a narrow failure predicate compared to the TypeScript reference SDK. The TS broadcaster additionally recognises: - INVALID - MALFORMED - MINEDINSTALEBLOCK - Any response containing ORPHAN in extraInfo or txStatus The Ruby implementation omits all of these, so ARC responses carrying any of these statuses are returned to the caller as successful broadcasts. Additional divergences in the same module compound the risk: - Content-Type is sent as…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-40069 Advisory: bsv-sdk ARC broadcaster treats INVALID/MALFORMED/ORPHAN responses as successful broadcasts IDs: CVE-2026-40069, GHSA-9hfr-gw99-8rhx Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-40069 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:52 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.5) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: bsv-sdk 0.8.2. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - RubyGems bsv-sdk: affected >= 0.1.0, < 0.8.2; fixed in 0.8.2 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - RubyGems bsv-sdk: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on bsv-sdk. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-9hfr-gw99-8rhx (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-9hfr-gw99-8rhx lists affected ranges: RubyGems bsv-sdk >=0.1.0 <0.8.2) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
