File Browser: Proxy auth auto-provisioned users inherit Execute permission and Commands
CVE-2026-35607GHSA-7526-j432-6ppp
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2 2.63.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary The fix in commit b6a4fb1 ("self-registered users don't get execute perms") stripped Execute permission and Commands from users created via the signup handler. The same fix was not applied to the proxy auth handler. Users auto-created on first successful proxy-auth login are granted execution capabilities from global defaults, even though the signup path was explicitly changed to prevent execution rights from being inherited by automatically provisioned accounts. Confirmed on v2.62.2 (commit 860c19d). Root Cause auth/proxy.go createUser() applies defaults without restriction: user := &users.User{ Username: username, Password: hashedRandomPassword, LockPassword: true, } setting.Defaults.Apply(user) // No restriction on Execute, Commands, or Admin Compare with http/auth.go signup handler (lines 170-178): d.settings.Defaults.Apply(user) user.Perm.Admin = false // Self-registered users should not inherit execution capabilities // from default settings, regardless of what the…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-35607 Advisory: File Browser: Proxy auth auto-provisioned users inherit Execute permission and Commands IDs: CVE-2026-35607, GHSA-7526-j432-6ppp Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-35607 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:19 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2 2.63.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2: affected < 2.63.1; fixed in 2.63.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-7526-j432-6ppp (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-7526-j432-6ppp lists affected ranges: Go github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2 >=0 <2.63.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
