Directus: TUS Upload Authorization Bypass Allows Arbitrary File Overwrite
CVE-2026-35412GHSA-qqmv-5p3g-px89
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (directus 11.16.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary Directus' TUS resumable upload endpoint (/files/tus) allows any authenticated user with basic file upload permissions to overwrite arbitrary existing files by UUID. The TUS controller performs only collection-level authorization checks, verifying the user has some permission on directusfiles, but never validates item-level access to the specific file being replaced. As a result, row-level permission rules (e.g., "users can only update their own files") are completely bypassed via the TUS path while being correctly enforced on the standard REST upload path. Impact - Arbitrary file overwrite: Any authenticated user with basic TUS upload permissions can overwrite any file in directusfiles by UUID, regardless of row-level permission rules. - Permanent data loss: The victim file's original stored bytes are deleted from storage and replaced with attacker-controlled content. - Metadata corruption: The victim file's database record is updated with the attacker's filename, type, and…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-35412 Advisory: Directus: TUS Upload Authorization Bypass Allows Arbitrary File Overwrite IDs: CVE-2026-35412, GHSA-qqmv-5p3g-px89 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-35412 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 12:47 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: directus 11.16.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm directus: affected < 11.16.1; fixed in 11.16.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls directus --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on directus. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-qqmv-5p3g-px89 (OSV record GHSA-qqmv-5p3g-px89 lists affected ranges: npm directus >=0 <11.16.1 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-qqmv-5p3g-px89 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-qqmv-5p3g-px89 lists affected ranges: npm directus >=0 <11.16.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
