PinchTab: OS Command Injection via Profile Name in Windows Cleanup Routine Enables Arbitrary Command Execution
CVE-2026-33623GHSA-p8mm-644p-phmh
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab 0.8.5; github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab/cmd/pinchtab 0.8.5), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Summary PinchTab v0.8.4 contains a Windows-only command injection issue in the orphaned Chrome cleanup path. When an instance is stopped, the Windows cleanup routine builds a PowerShell -Command string using a needle derived from the profile path. In v0.8.4, that string interpolation escapes backslashes but does not safely neutralize other PowerShell metacharacters. If an attacker can launch an instance using a crafted profile name and then trigger the cleanup path, they may be able to execute arbitrary PowerShell commands on the Windows host in the security context of the PinchTab process user. This is not an unauthenticated internet RCE. It requires authenticated, administrative-equivalent API access to instance lifecycle endpoints, and the resulting command execution inherits the permissions of the PinchTab OS user rather than bypassing host privilege boundaries. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-33623 Advisory: PinchTab: OS Command Injection via Profile Name in Windows Cleanup Routine Enables Arbitrary Command Execution IDs: CVE-2026-33623, GHSA-p8mm-644p-phmh Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-33623 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:18 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.7) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab 0.8.5; github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab/cmd/pinchtab 0.8.5. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab: affected < 0.8.5; fixed in 0.8.5 - Go github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab/cmd/pinchtab: affected <= 0.8.4; fixed in 0.8.5 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab: check the installed version with your package manager. - Go github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab/cmd/pinchtab: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab, github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab/cmd/pinchtab. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-p8mm-644p-phmh (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-p8mm-644p-phmh lists affected ranges: Go github.com/pinchtab/pinchtab/cmd/pinchtab >=0 =0 <0.8.5) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
