Path traversal in Tekton Pipelines git resolver allows reading arbitrary files from the resolver pod
CVE-2026-33211GHSA-j5q5-j9gm-2w5c
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/tektoncd/pipeline 1.10.2, 1.9.2, 1.6.1, 1.3.3, 1.0.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary The Tekton Pipelines git resolver is vulnerable to path traversal via the pathInRepo parameter. A tenant with permission to create ResolutionRequests (e.g. by creating TaskRuns or PipelineRuns that use the git resolver) can read arbitrary files from the resolver pod's filesystem, including ServiceAccount tokens. The file contents are returned base64-encoded in resolutionrequest.status.data. Details The git resolver's getFileContent() function in pkg/resolution/resolver/git/repository.go constructs a file path by joining the repository clone directory with the user-supplied pathInRepo parameter: The pathInRepo parameter is not validated for path traversal sequences. An attacker can supply values like ../../../../etc/passwd to escape the cloned repository directory and read arbitrary files from the resolver pod's filesystem. The vulnerability was introduced in commit 318006c4e3a5 which switched the git resolver from the go-git library (using an in-memory filesystem that cannot…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-33211 Advisory: Path traversal in Tekton Pipelines git resolver allows reading arbitrary files from the resolver pod IDs: CVE-2026-33211, GHSA-j5q5-j9gm-2w5c Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-33211 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:18 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.6) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/tektoncd/pipeline 1.10.2, 1.9.2, 1.6.1, 1.3.3, 1.0.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/tektoncd/pipeline: affected >= 1.0.0, < 1.0.1; >= 1.1.0, < 1.3.3; >= 1.4.0, < 1.6.1; >= 1.7.0, < 1.9.2; >= 1.10.0, < 1.10.2; fixed in 1.6.1, 1.9.2, 1.3.3, 1.0.1, 1.10.2 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/tektoncd/pipeline: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/tektoncd/pipeline. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-j5q5-j9gm-2w5c (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-j5q5-j9gm-2w5c lists affected ranges: Go github.com/tektoncd/pipeline >=1.0.0 =1.1.0 =1.4.0 =1.7.0 =1.10.0 <1.10.2) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
