File Browser's TUS Delete Endpoint Bypasses Delete Permission Check
CVE-2026-29188GHSA-79pf-vx4x-7jmm
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2 2.61.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary A broken access control vulnerability in the TUS protocol DELETE endpoint allows authenticated users with only Create permission to delete arbitrary files and directories within their scope, bypassing the intended Delete permission restriction. Any multi-user deployment where administrators explicitly restrict file deletion for certain users is affected. Details The tusDeleteHandler function in http/tushandlers.go incorrectly gates the DELETE operation behind Perm.Create instead of Perm.Delete: The correct resourceDeleteHandler in http/resource.go properly checks Perm.Delete: This inconsistency means that DELETE /api/tus/{path} and DELETE /api/resources/{path} enforce entirely different permission models for the same underlying filesystem operation. The TUS endpoint was introduced to support resumable uploads (http/tushandlers.go) and its DELETE handler is intended to cancel in-progress uploads -however, the RemoveAll call permanently removes the file from the filesystem…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-29188 Advisory: File Browser's TUS Delete Endpoint Bypasses Delete Permission Check IDs: CVE-2026-29188, GHSA-79pf-vx4x-7jmm Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-29188 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:15 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2 2.61.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2: affected <= 2.61.0; fixed in 2.61.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-79pf-vx4x-7jmm (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-79pf-vx4x-7jmm lists affected ranges: Go github.com/filebrowser/filebrowser/v2 >=0 <=2.61.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
