Summary The application allows users to set weak passwords (e.g., 1234, password) without enforcing minimum strength requirements. Additionally, active sessions remain valid after a user changes their password. An attacker who compromises an account (via brute-force or credential stuffing) can maintain persistent access even after the victim resets their password. Details 1. Weak passwords are accepted during registration and password change. 2. No minimum length or strength validation is enforced. 3. After changing the password, previously issued session tokens remain valid. 4. No forced logout occurs across active sessions. Attack scenario: Attacker guesses or obtains weak credentials. Logs in and obtains active session token. Victim changes password. Attacker continues accessing the account using the old session. Steps to Reproduce 1. Register using a weak password (e.g., 12345678 ). 2. Log in and Password Change functionality. 3. Change account password with single character…

Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go code.vikunja.io/api: affected <= 0.24.6 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go code.vikunja.io/api: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on code.vikunja.io/api. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-3ccg-x393-96v8 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-3ccg-x393-96v8 lists affected ranges: Go code.vikunja.io/api >=0 <=0.24.6) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
