Froxlor has Admin-to-Root Privilege Escalation via Input Validation Bypass + OS Command Injection
CVE-2026-26279GHSA-33mp-8p67-xj7c
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (froxlor/froxlor 2.3.4), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Summary A typo in Froxlor's input validation code (== instead of =) completely disables email format checking for all settings fields declared as email type. This allows an authenticated admin to store arbitrary strings — including shell metacharacters — in the panel.adminmail setting. This value is later concatenated into a shell command executed as root by a cron job, where the pipe character | is explicitly whitelisted. The result is full root-level Remote Code Execution. --- Why This Is a Security Vulnerability (Not Just "Admin Using Admin Features") Froxlor is a shared hosting control panel. In production deployments: 1. Admin panel access does not equal root access. Hosting providers assign the Froxlor admin role to staff who manage customer accounts, domains, and services through the web UI. These operators are not given SSH access or root shell on the underlying server. The boundary between "panel admin" and "OS root" is a deliberate security design. 2. Froxlor itself…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-26279 Advisory: Froxlor has Admin-to-Root Privilege Escalation via Input Validation Bypass + OS Command Injection IDs: CVE-2026-26279, GHSA-33mp-8p67-xj7c Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-26279 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:38 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: froxlor/froxlor 2.3.4. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Packagist froxlor/froxlor: affected <= 2.3.3; fixed in 2.3.4 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Packagist froxlor/froxlor: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on froxlor/froxlor. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-33mp-8p67-xj7c (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-33mp-8p67-xj7c lists affected ranges: Packagist froxlor/froxlor >=0 <=2.3.3) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
