RustFS Logs Sensitive Credentials in Plaintext
CVE-2026-24762GHSA-r54g-49rx-98cr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (rustfs 1.0.0-alpha.82), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary RustFS logs sensitive credential material (access key, secret key, session token) to application logs at INFO level. This results in credentials being recorded in plaintext in log output, which may be accessible to internal or external log consumers and could lead to compromise of sensitive credentials. This vulnerability is classified as an information disclosure issue (CWE-532). Details The server writes newly generated STS credential information including the access key, secret key, and session token to logs. The following excerpts from application logs demonstrate this: By inspecting logs, an attacker or unauthorized internal user with access to logs could retrieve these credentials and use them to authenticate to RustFS services or perform other unauthorized actions. Impact - Information Exposure: Plaintext authentication credentials appear in log files that may be retained, backed up, or forwarded to centralized logging systems. - Credential Compromise: Access keys,…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-24762 Advisory: RustFS Logs Sensitive Credentials in Plaintext IDs: CVE-2026-24762, GHSA-r54g-49rx-98cr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-24762 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:39 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.9) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: rustfs 1.0.0-alpha.82. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io rustfs: affected >= 1.0.0-alpha.13, <= 1.0.0-alpha.81; fixed in 1.0.0-alpha.82 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io rustfs: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on rustfs. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-r54g-49rx-98cr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-r54g-49rx-98cr lists affected ranges: crates.io rustfs >=1.0.0-alpha.13 <=1.0.0-alpha.81) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
