Craft CMS: Missing authorization check allows non-admin control panel users access to user registration metrics

CVE-2026-14794GHSA-rvmm-v933-jgxq

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (craftcms/cms 5.10.3, 4.18.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

ChartsController::actionGetNewUsersData() at /actions/charts/get-new-users-data is missing a requirePermission('viewUsers') authorization check. Any authenticated control panel user, regardless of permissions beyond accessCp, can POST to this endpoint to receive time-series user registration counts for the entire site or for an arbitrary user group ID. The viewUsers permission is consistently required throughout the control panel before exposing user-related data, but this action enforces only the base accessCp check inherited from the framework. Each call returns the total count of users who joined the specified group in the requested period. Impact Any control panel user with only accessCp permission can obtain the total number of registered users and their registration date distribution across any time window. In installations with multiple editor roles, this allows a low-privilege control panel user to infer user group sizes and registration trends that would normally require the…

Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-14794 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:50 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3)

Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: craftcms/cms 5.10.3, 4.18.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Packagist craftcms/cms: affected >= 4.0.0-RC1, < 4.18.1; >= 5.0.0-RC1, < 5.10.3; fixed in 4.18.1, 5.10.3

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist craftcms/cms: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on craftcms/cms.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
