Docling: enable_local_fetch is not enforced in HTML browser-rendering mode

CVE-2026-105750GHSA-q43m-vhcp-mhvm

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (docling-slim 2.118.1; docling 2.118.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary When the HTML backend renders pages in a headless browser (HTMLBackendOptions(renderpage=True)), the enablelocalfetch option is not enforced. A crafted HTML file can embed an arbitrary local file (for example with <iframe src="file:///..."), and that file's contents appear in the page image attached to the returned DoclingDocument. Details In render mode, Playwright requests are filtered by HTMLDocumentBackend.getbrowserrequestblockreason. In affected versions, this check allowed file: URLs unconditionally, before reading any option. As a result: - enablelocalfetch=False did not block local file access, and - even with enablelocalfetch=True, file access was not limited to the source document's directory, unlike the non-render path (ImageResourceLoader), which rejects absolute paths and path traversal. Versions 2.82.0–2.90.x did no request filtering in render mode at all. The browser runs with JavaScript disabled (from 2.91.0), so disclosure is passive: only what Chromium…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2026-105750

Advisory: Docling: `enable_local_fetch` is not enforced in HTML browser-rendering mode
IDs: CVE-2026-105750, GHSA-q43m-vhcp-mhvm
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2026-105750 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:55 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.9)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: docling-slim 2.118.1; docling 2.118.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- PyPI docling-slim: affected >= 2.92.0, < 2.118.1; fixed in 2.118.1
- PyPI docling: affected >= 2.82.0, < 2.118.1; fixed in 2.118.1

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `python -m pip show docling-slim`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active.
- `python -m pip show docling`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on docling-slim, docling.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
