Picklescan has pickle parsing logic flaw that leads to malicious pickle file bypass
CVE-2025-71325GHSA-9gvj-pp9x-gcfr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (picklescan 0.0.27), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Details There's a parsing logic error in picklescan and modelscan while trying to deal with opcode STACKGLOBAL. Function listglobals when handling STACKGLOBAL at position n, it is expected to track two arguments but in wrong range. The loop only consider the range from 1 to n-1 but forgets to consider the opcode at position 0. The correct range should be 0 to n-1. Attacker can put arg in position 0, thus the parser can only tract one argument. Then, the exception https://github.com/mmaitre314/picklescan/blob/2a8383cfeb4158567f9770d86597300c9e508d0f/src/picklescan/scanner.py#L281 will be triggered. Thus it can cause detection bypass since the malicious pickle file will trigger unexpected exceptions. Example: PoC Impact Detection bypass in both picklescan and modelscan. Note that it also affects the online hugging face pickle scanners, making the malicious pickle file bypass the detection. Fix To fix the range here, change range(1, n) to range(1, n+1) to ensure that n-offset stays…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-71325 Advisory: Picklescan has pickle parsing logic flaw that leads to malicious pickle file bypass IDs: CVE-2025-71325, GHSA-9gvj-pp9x-gcfr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-71325 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:45 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.9) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: picklescan 0.0.27. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI picklescan: affected < 0.0.27; fixed in 0.0.27 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show picklescan`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on picklescan. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-9gvj-pp9x-gcfr (OSV record GHSA-9gvj-pp9x-gcfr lists affected ranges: PyPI picklescan >=0 <0.0.27 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-9gvj-pp9x-gcfr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-9gvj-pp9x-gcfr lists affected ranges: PyPI picklescan >=0 <0.0.27) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
