Pterodactyl does not revoke SFTP access when server is deleted or permissions reduced

CVE-2025-68954GHSA-8c39-xppg-479c

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (pterodactyl/panel 1.12.0; github.com/pterodactyl/wings 1.12.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary Pterodactyl does not revoke active SFTP connections when a user is removed from a server instance or has their permissions changes with respect to file access over SFTP. This allows a user that was already connected to SFTP to remain connected and access files even after their permissions are revoked. Details When a user opens a connection to a server using the Wings SFTP server instance the permissions are checked and returned from the authentication API call made to the Panel. However, credentials are not checked again after the initial handshake. Thus, if a user is removed from a server in the panel or have their permissions modified, those permissions are not updated in the SFTP connection. As a result, a user that has already gained access to a server's files via the SFTP subsystem will maintain those permissions until disconnected (via Wings restart, or a manual disconnection on their end). [!NOTE] This issue impacts the SFTP subsystem for server files specifically.…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-68954

Advisory: Pterodactyl does not revoke SFTP access when server is deleted or permissions reduced
IDs: CVE-2025-68954, GHSA-8c39-xppg-479c
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-68954 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:35 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 7.5)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: pterodactyl/panel 1.12.0; github.com/pterodactyl/wings 1.12.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Packagist pterodactyl/panel: affected < 1.12.0; fixed in 1.12.0
- Go github.com/pterodactyl/wings: affected < 1.12.0; fixed in 1.12.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist pterodactyl/panel: check the installed version with your package manager.
- Go github.com/pterodactyl/wings: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on pterodactyl/panel, github.com/pterodactyl/wings.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
