Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact Projects using the SUSE Virtualization (Harvester) environment are vulnerable to this exploit if they are using the 1.5.x or 1.6.x interactive installer to either create a new cluster or add new hosts to an existing cluster. The environment is not affected if the PXE boot mechanism is utilized along with the Harvester configuration setup. A critical vulnerability has been identified within the SUSE Virtualization interactive installer. This vulnerability allows an attacker to gain unauthorized network access to the host via a remote shell (SSH). The SUSE Virtualization operating system includes a default administrative login credential intended solely for out-of-band cluster management tasks (for example, perform troubleshooting, device management and system recovery over serial ports). When the interactive installer is used to create or expand a cluster, the installer enables the host's networking functions before the default password is reset. This presents a window of…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-62877 Advisory: Harvest May Expose OS Default SSH Login Password Via SUSE Virtualization Interactive Installer IDs: CVE-2025-62877, GHSA-6g8q-hp2j-gvwv Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-62877 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:14 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.8) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/harvester/harvester-installer: affected >= 1.6.0, <= 1.6.1; >= 1.5.0, <= 1.5.2 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/harvester/harvester-installer: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/harvester/harvester-installer. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-6g8q-hp2j-gvwv (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-6g8q-hp2j-gvwv lists affected ranges: Go github.com/harvester/harvester-installer >=1.6.0 =1.5.0 <=1.5.2) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
