Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Affected versions append root to group listings, unless the correct listing has exactly 1024 groups. This affects both: - The supplementary groups of a user - The group access list of the current process If the caller uses this information for access control, this may lead to privilege escalation. This crate is not currently maintained, so a patched version is not available. Versions older than 0.8.0 do not contain the affected functions, so downgrading to them is a workaround. Recommended alternatives - uzers (an actively maintained fork of the users crate) - sysinfo

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-5791 Advisory: users may append `root` to group listings IDs: CVE-2025-5791, GHSA-m65q-v92h-cm7q Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-5791 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:38 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io users: affected >= 0.8.0, <= 0.11.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io users: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on users. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-m65q-v92h-cm7q (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-m65q-v92h-cm7q lists affected ranges: crates.io users >=0.8.0 <=0.11.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
