XWiki missing authorization when accessing the wiki level attachments list and metadata via REST API
CVE-2025-46554GHSA-r5cr-xm48-97xp
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-rest-server 16.7.0, 16.4.3, 15.10.12, 14.10.22), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact Anyone can access the metadata of any attachment in the wiki using the wiki attachment REST endpoint. It's not filtering the result depending on current user rights, a not authenticated user could exploit this even in a totally private wiki. To reproduce: remove view from guest on the whole wiki logout access http://127.0.0.1:8080/xwiki/rest/wikis/xwiki/spaces/Sandbox/pages/WebHome/attachments You get a list of attachments, while the expected result should be an empty list. Patches This vulnerability has been fixed in XWiki 14.10.22, 15.10.12, 16.7.0-rc-1 and 16.4.3. Workarounds We're not aware of any workaround except upgrading. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-46554 Advisory: XWiki missing authorization when accessing the wiki level attachments list and metadata via REST API IDs: CVE-2025-46554, GHSA-r5cr-xm48-97xp Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-46554 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:35 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-rest-server 16.7.0, 16.4.3, 15.10.12, 14.10.22. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-rest-server: affected >= 1.8.1, < 14.10.22; >= 15.0-rc-1, < 15.10.12; >= 16.0.0-rc-1, < 16.4.3; >= 16.5.0-rc-1, < 16.7.0; fixed in 14.10.22, 16.4.3, 15.10.12, 16.7.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-rest-server: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-rest-server. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-r5cr-xm48-97xp (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-r5cr-xm48-97xp lists affected ranges: Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-rest-server >=1.8.1 =15.0-rc-1 =16.0.0-rc-1 =16.5.0-rc-1 <16.7.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
