Pyroscope Exposes Storage Secret

CVE-2025-41118GHSA-m9hq-h476-h2g8

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/grafana/pyroscope 1.16.1, 1.15.2), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Pyroscope is an open-source continuous profiling database. The database supports various storage backends, including Tencent Cloud Object Storage (COS). If the database is configured to use Tencent COS as the storage backend, an attacker could extract the secretkey configuration value from the Pyroscope API. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker needs direct access to the Pyroscope API. We highly recommend limiting the public internet exposure of all our databases, such that they are only accessible by trusted users or internal systems. This vulnerability is fixed in versions: 1.15.x: 1.15.2 and above. 1.16.x: 1.16.1 and above. 1.17.x: 1.17.0 and above (i.e. all versions). Thanks to Théo Cusnir for reporting this vulnerability to us via our bug bounty program.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-41118

Advisory: Pyroscope Exposes Storage Secret
IDs: CVE-2025-41118, GHSA-m9hq-h476-h2g8
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-41118 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:19 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.1)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/grafana/pyroscope 1.16.1, 1.15.2. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Go github.com/grafana/pyroscope: affected < 1.15.2; >= 1.16.0, < 1.16.1; fixed in 1.16.1, 1.15.2

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Go github.com/grafana/pyroscope: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on github.com/grafana/pyroscope.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-m9hq-h476-h2g8 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-m9hq-h476-h2g8 lists affected ranges: Go github.com/grafana/pyroscope >=0 =1.16.0 <1.16.1)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
