Redlib allows a Denial of Service via DEFLATE Decompression Bomb in restore_preferences Form

CVE-2025-30160GHSA-g8vq-v3mg-7mrg

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (redlib 0.36.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

A vulnerability has been identified in Redlib where an attacker can cause a denial-of-service (DOS) condition by submitting a specially crafted base2048-encoded DEFLATE decompression bomb to the restorepreferences form. This leads to excessive memory consumption and potential system instability, which can be exploited to disrupt Redlib instances. This vulnerability was introduced in 2e95e1fc6e2064ccfae87964b4860bda55eddb9a and fixed in 15147cea8e42f6569a11603d661d71122f6a02dc. Impact What kind of vulnerability is it? Who is impacted? This vulnerability allows a remote attacker with network access to exploit the preference restoration mechanism by providing a compressed payload that expands dramatically upon decompression. The issue arises because the system automatically decompresses user-supplied data without enforcing size limits, potentially leading to: - Out-of-memory (OOM) conditions - OS-level resource exhaustion, potentially leading to broader system instability or crashes -…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-30160

Advisory: Redlib allows a Denial of Service via DEFLATE Decompression Bomb in restore_preferences Form
IDs: CVE-2025-30160, GHSA-g8vq-v3mg-7mrg
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-30160 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:38 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: High (CVSS 8.7)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: redlib 0.36.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- crates.io redlib: affected < 0.36.0; fixed in 0.36.0

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- crates.io redlib: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on redlib.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
