Memory Exhaustion in Expr Parser with Unrestricted Input
CVE-2025-29786GHSA-93mq-9ffx-83m2
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/expr-lang/expr 1.17.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact If the Expr expression parser is given an unbounded input string, it will attempt to compile the entire string and generate an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST) node for each part of the expression. In scenarios where input size isn’t limited, a malicious or inadvertent extremely large expression can consume excessive memory as the parser builds a huge AST. This can ultimately lead to excessive memory usage and an Out-Of-Memory (OOM) crash of the process. This issue is relatively uncommon and will only manifest when there are no restrictions on the input size, i.e. the expression length is allowed to grow arbitrarily large. In typical use cases where inputs are bounded or validated, this problem would not occur. Patches The problem has been patched in the latest versions of the Expr library. The fix introduces compile-time limits on the number of AST nodes and memory usage during parsing, preventing any single expression from exhausting resources. Users should upgrade to Expr version…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-29786 Advisory: Memory Exhaustion in Expr Parser with Unrestricted Input IDs: CVE-2025-29786, GHSA-93mq-9ffx-83m2 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-29786 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:09 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.5) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/expr-lang/expr 1.17.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/expr-lang/expr: affected < 1.17.0; fixed in 1.17.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/expr-lang/expr: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/expr-lang/expr. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-93mq-9ffx-83m2 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-93mq-9ffx-83m2 lists affected ranges: Go github.com/expr-lang/expr >=0 <1.17.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
