Label Studio allows Server-Side Request Forgery in the S3 Storage Endpoint
CVE-2025-25297GHSA-m238-fmcw-wh58
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (label-studio 1.16.0), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

Description Label Studio's S3 storage integration feature contains a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in its endpoint configuration. When creating an S3 storage connection, the application allows users to specify a custom S3 endpoint URL via the s3endpoint parameter. This endpoint URL is passed directly to the boto3 AWS SDK without proper validation or restrictions on the protocol or destination. The vulnerability allows an attacker to make the application send HTTP requests to arbitrary internal services by specifying them as the S3 endpoint. When the storage sync operation is triggered, the application attempts to make S3 API calls to the specified endpoint, effectively making HTTP requests to the target service and returning the response in error messages. This SSRF vulnerability enables attackers to bypass network segmentation and access internal services that should not be accessible from the external network. The vulnerability is particularly severe because…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-25297 Advisory: Label Studio allows Server-Side Request Forgery in the S3 Storage Endpoint IDs: CVE-2025-25297, GHSA-m238-fmcw-wh58 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-25297 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:31 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.6) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: label-studio 1.16.0. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI label-studio: affected < 1.16.0; fixed in 1.16.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show label-studio`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on label-studio. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-m238-fmcw-wh58 (OSV record GHSA-m238-fmcw-wh58 lists affected ranges: PyPI label-studio >=0 <1.16.0 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-m238-fmcw-wh58 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-m238-fmcw-wh58 lists affected ranges: PyPI label-studio >=0 <1.16.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
