snowflake-sdk may incorrectly validate temporary credential cache file permissions
CVE-2025-24791GHSA-xfhv-wqj6-rx99
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (snowflake-sdk 2.0.2), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Issue Snowflake discovered and remediated a vulnerability in the Snowflake NodeJS Driver. File permissions checks of the temporary credential cache could be bypassed by an attacker with write access to the local cache directory. This vulnerability affects versions 1.12.0 through 2.0.1 on Linux. Snowflake fixed the issue in version 2.0.2. Vulnerability Details On Linux, when either EXTERNALBROWSER or USERNAMEPASSWORDMFA authentication methods are used with temporary credential caching enabled, the Snowflake NodeJS Driver will cache temporary credentials in a local file. Due to a bug, the check verifying that the cache file can be accessed only by the user running the Driver always succeeded, but didn’t verify the permissions or the ownership correctly. An attacker with write access to the local cache folder could plant an empty file there and the Driver would use it to store temporary credentials instead of rejecting it due to overly broad permissions. Solution Snowflake released…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-24791 Advisory: snowflake-sdk may incorrectly validate temporary credential cache file permissions IDs: CVE-2025-24791, GHSA-xfhv-wqj6-rx99 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-24791 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 12:31 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 4.4) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: snowflake-sdk 2.0.2. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - npm snowflake-sdk: affected >= 1.12.0, <= 2.0.1; fixed in 2.0.2 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `npm ls snowflake-sdk --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on snowflake-sdk. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-xfhv-wqj6-rx99 (OSV record GHSA-xfhv-wqj6-rx99 lists affected ranges: npm snowflake-sdk >=1.12.0 <2.0.2 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-xfhv-wqj6-rx99 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-xfhv-wqj6-rx99 lists affected ranges: npm snowflake-sdk >=1.12.0 <=2.0.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
