Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact SFTPGo supports execution of a defined set of commands via SSH. Besides a set of default commands some optional commands can be activated, one of them being rsync: it is disabled in the default configuration and it is limited to the local filesystem, it does not work with cloud/remote storage backends. Due to missing sanitization of the client provided rsync command, an authenticated remote user can use some options of the rsync command to read or write files with the permissions of the SFTPGo server process. Patches This issue was fixed in version v2.6.5 by checking the client provided arguments. https://github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/commit/b347ab6051f6c501da205c09315fe99cd1fa3ba1

Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Partial vendor fix; fixed versions by package: github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2 2.6.5. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2: affected >= 0.9.5, <= 2.6.4; fixed in 2.6.5 - Go github.com/drakkan/sftpgo: affected <= 1.2.2 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. - Go github.com/drakkan/sftpgo: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2, github.com/drakkan/sftpgo. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-vj7w-3m8c-6vpx (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-vj7w-3m8c-6vpx lists affected ranges: Go github.com/drakkan/sftpgo/v2 >=0.9.5 =0 <=1.2.2) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
