Deep Java Library path traversal issue
CVE-2025-0851GHSA-jcrp-x7w3-ffmg
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (ai.djl:api 0.31.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Summary Deep Java Library (DJL) is an open-source, high-level, engine-agnostic Java framework for deep learning. DJL is designed to be easy to get started with and simple to use for Java developers. DJL provides a native Java development experience and functions like any other regular Java library. DJL provides utilities for extracting tar and zip model archives that are used when loading models for use with DJL. These utilities were found to contain issues that do not protect against absolute path traversal during the extraction process. Impact An issue exists with DJL's untar and unzip functionalities. Specifically, it is possible to create an archive on a Windows system, and when extracted on a MacOS or Linux system, write artifacts outside the intended destination during the extraction process. The reverse is also true for archives created on MacOS/Linux systems and extracted on Windows systems. Impacted versions: 0.1.0 - 0.31.0 Patches This issue has been patched in DJL 0.31.1…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2025-0851 Advisory: Deep Java Library path traversal issue IDs: CVE-2025-0851, GHSA-jcrp-x7w3-ffmg Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2025-0851 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:40 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: ai.djl:api 0.31.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven ai.djl:api: affected < 0.31.1; fixed in 0.31.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven ai.djl:api: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on ai.djl:api. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-jcrp-x7w3-ffmg (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-jcrp-x7w3-ffmg lists affected ranges: Maven ai.djl:api >=0 <0.31.1) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
