Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
In version 3.23.0 of aimhubio/aim, certain methods that request data from external servers do not have set timeouts, causing the server to wait indefinitely for a response. This can lead to a denial of service, as the tracking server does not respond to other requests while waiting. The issue arises in the client used by the aim tracking server to communicate with external resources, specifically in the runreadinstructions method and similar calls without timeouts.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-8061 Advisory: Aim allows denial of service due to no timeouts for some tracking server endpoints IDs: CVE-2024-8061, GHSA-6w7p-xrvp-p7xv Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-8061 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:35 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 7.5) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor response not established. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI aim: affected <= 3.23.0 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show aim`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on aim. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-6w7p-xrvp-p7xv (OSV record GHSA-6w7p-xrvp-p7xv lists affected ranges: PyPI aim >=0 <=3.23.0) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-6w7p-xrvp-p7xv (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-6w7p-xrvp-p7xv lists affected ranges: PyPI aim >=0 <=3.23.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
