Gogs allows deletion of internal files which leads to remote command execution
CVE-2024-56731GHSA-wj44-9vcg-wjq7
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (gogs.io/gogs 0.13.3), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary Due to the insufficient patch for the CVE-2024-39931, it's still possible to delete files under the .git directory and achieve remote command execution. Details In the patch for CVE-2024-39931, the following check is added: https://github.com/gogs/gogs/commit/77a4a945ae9a87f77e392e9066b560edb71b5de9 While the above code snippet checks if the specified path is a .git directory, there are no checks for symbolic links in the later steps. So, by creating a symbolic link that points to the .git directory, an attacker can still delete arbitrary files in the .git directory and achieve remote command execution. Impact Unprivileged user accounts can execute arbitrary commands on the Gogs instance with the privileges of the account specified by RUNUSER in the configuration. It allows attackers to access and alter any users' code hosted on the same instance.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-56731 Advisory: Gogs allows deletion of internal files which leads to remote command execution IDs: CVE-2024-56731, GHSA-wj44-9vcg-wjq7 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-56731 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:09 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 10.0) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: gogs.io/gogs 0.13.3. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go gogs.io/gogs: affected <= 0.13.2; fixed in 0.13.3 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go gogs.io/gogs: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on gogs.io/gogs. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-wj44-9vcg-wjq7 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-wj44-9vcg-wjq7 lists affected ranges: Go gogs.io/gogs >=0 <=0.13.2) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
