Missing permission check in Jenkins Script Security Plugin

CVE-2024-52549GHSA-jv82-75fh-23r7

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security 1368.vb), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Jenkins Script Security Plugin 1367.vdf2fc45f229c and earlier, except 1365.1367.va3bb89f8a95b and 1362.1364.v4cf2dc5d8776, does not perform a permission check in a method implementing form validation, allowing attackers with Overall/Read permission to check for the existence of files on the controller file system. This allows attackers with Overall/Read permission to check for the existence of files on the controller file system. Script Security Plugin 1368.vbb402e3547e7 requires Overall/Administer permission for the affected form validation method.

Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security 1368.vb. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security: affected < 1368.vb; fixed in 1368.vb

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-jv82-75fh-23r7 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-jv82-75fh-23r7 lists affected ranges: Maven org.jenkins-ci.plugins:script-security >=0 <1368.vb)

Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
