Lara-zeus Dynamic Dashboard and Artemis do not validate paragraph widget values which can be used for XSS

CVE-2024-47817GHSA-c6cw-g7fc-4gwc

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (lara-zeus/dynamic-dashboard 3.0.2; lara-zeus/artemis 1.0.7), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary If values passed to a paragraph widget are not valid and contain a specific set of characters, applications are vulnerable to XSS attack against a user who opens a page on which a paragraph widget is rendered. Versions of dynamic dashboard from v3.0.0 through v3.0.2 are affected. Please upgrade to dynamic dashboard v3.0.2. PoC PoC will be published in a few weeks, once developers have had a chance to upgrade their apps. Response This vulnerability (in paragraph widget only) was reported by Raghav Sharma, who reported the issue and patched the issue during the morning of 05/10/2024. Thank you Raghav Sharma. The review process concluded the same day at night, which revealed the issue was also present in paragraph widget. This was fixed the same day and dynamic dashboard v3.0.2 followed. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: lara-zeus/dynamic-dashboard 3.0.2; lara-zeus/artemis 1.0.7. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Packagist lara-zeus/dynamic-dashboard: affected >= 3.0.0, <= 3.0.1; fixed in 3.0.2
- Packagist lara-zeus/artemis: affected >= 1.0.0, <= 1.0.6; fixed in 1.0.7

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist lara-zeus/dynamic-dashboard: check the installed version with your package manager.
- Packagist lara-zeus/artemis: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on lara-zeus/dynamic-dashboard, lara-zeus/artemis.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
