Insecure Temporary File usage in github.com/golang/glog
CVE-2024-45339GHSA-6wxm-mpqj-6jpf
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/golang/glog 1.2.4), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
When logs are written to a widely-writable directory (the default), an unprivileged attacker may predict a privileged process's log file path and pre-create a symbolic link to a sensitive file in its place. When that privileged process runs, it will follow the planted symlink and overwrite that sensitive file. To fix that, glog now causes the program to exit (with status code 2) when it finds that the configured log file already exists.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-45339 Advisory: Insecure Temporary File usage in github.com/golang/glog IDs: CVE-2024-45339, GHSA-6wxm-mpqj-6jpf Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-45339 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:08 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 4.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/golang/glog 1.2.4. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/golang/glog: affected < 1.2.4; fixed in 1.2.4 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/golang/glog: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/golang/glog. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-6wxm-mpqj-6jpf (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-6wxm-mpqj-6jpf lists affected ranges: Go github.com/golang/glog >=0 <1.2.4) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
