Twisted vulnerable to HTML injection in HTTP redirect body
CVE-2024-41810GHSA-cf56-g6w6-pqq2
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (twisted 24.7.0rc1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary The twisted.web.util.redirectTo function contains an HTML injection vulnerability. If application code allows an attacker to control the redirect URL this vulnerability may result in Reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) in the redirect response HTML body. Details Twisted’s redirectTo function generates an HTTP 302 Redirect response. The response contains an HTML body, built for exceptional cases where the browser doesn’t properly handle the redirect, allowing the user to click a link, navigating them to the specified destination. The function reflects the destination URL in the HTML body without any output encoding. If an attacker has full or partial control over redirect location due to an application bug, also known as an “Open Redirect”, they may inject arbitrary HTML into the response’s body, ultimately leading to an XSS attack. It’s worth noting that the issue is known to maintainers and tracked with GitHub Issue#9839. The issue description, however, does not make any…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-41810 Advisory: Twisted vulnerable to HTML injection in HTTP redirect body IDs: CVE-2024-41810, GHSA-cf56-g6w6-pqq2 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-41810 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:35 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 5.3) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: twisted 24.7.0rc1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI twisted: affected <= 24.3.0; fixed in 24.7.0rc1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show twisted`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on twisted. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-cf56-g6w6-pqq2 (OSV record GHSA-cf56-g6w6-pqq2 lists affected ranges: PyPI twisted >=0 <24.7.0rc1 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-cf56-g6w6-pqq2 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-cf56-g6w6-pqq2 lists affected ranges: PyPI twisted >=0 <=24.3.0) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
