Session Middleware Token Injection Vulnerability
CVE-2024-38513GHSA-98j2-3j3p-fw2v
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (github.com/gofiber/fiber 2.52.5; github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2/middleware/session 2.52.5; github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2 2.52.5), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
A security vulnerability has been identified in the Fiber session middleware where a user can supply their own sessionid value, leading to the creation of a session with that key. Impact The identified vulnerability is a session middleware issue in GoFiber versions 2 and above. This vulnerability allows users to supply their own sessionid value, resulting in the creation of a session with that key. If a website relies on the mere presence of a session for security purposes, this can lead to significant security risks, including unauthorized access and session fixation attacks. All users utilizing GoFiber's session middleware in the affected versions are impacted. Patches The issue has been addressed in the latest patch. Users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to version 2.52.5 or higher to mitigate this vulnerability. Workarounds Users who are unable to upgrade immediately can apply the following workarounds to reduce the risk: 1. Validate Session IDs: Implement additional…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-38513 Advisory: Session Middleware Token Injection Vulnerability IDs: CVE-2024-38513, GHSA-98j2-3j3p-fw2v Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-38513 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:04 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Critical (CVSS 10.0) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: github.com/gofiber/fiber 2.52.5; github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2/middleware/session 2.52.5; github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2 2.52.5. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Go github.com/gofiber/fiber: affected <= 2.52.4; fixed in 2.52.5 - Go github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2/middleware/session: affected <= 2.52.4; fixed in 2.52.5 - Go github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2: affected <= 2.52.4; fixed in 2.52.5 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Go github.com/gofiber/fiber: check the installed version with your package manager. - Go github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2/middleware/session: check the installed version with your package manager. - Go github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on github.com/gofiber/fiber, github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2/middleware/session, github.com/gofiber/fiber/v2. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-98j2-3j3p-fw2v (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-98j2-3j3p-fw2v lists affected ranges: Go github.com/gofiber/fiber >=0 =0 =0 <=2.52.4) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
