MSAL.NET applications targeting Xamarin Android and .NET Android (MAUI) susceptible to local denial of service
CVE-2024-27086GHSA-x674-v45j-fwxw
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (microsoft.identity.client 4.60.3, 4.59.1), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

[!IMPORTANT] ONLY applications targeting Xamarin Android and .NET Android (MAUI) are impacted. All others can safely dismiss this CVE. Impact MSAL.NET applications targeting Xamarin Android and .NET Android (e.g., MAUI) using the library from versions 4.48.0 to 4.60.3 (inclusive, except 4.59.1 and 4.60.3) are impacted by a low severity vulnerability. A malicious application running on a customer Android device can (1) inject HTML/JavaScript in an embedded web view exported by affected applications, or (2) cause local denial of service against applications that were built using MSAL.NET for authentication on the same device (i.e., prevent the user of the legitimate application from logging in) due to incorrect activity export configuration. Patches MSAL.NET version 4.60.3 includes the fix. We recommend all users of MSAL.NET that are building public client applications for Android update to the latest version. Workarounds We recommend developers update to the latest version of…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-27086 Advisory: MSAL.NET applications targeting Xamarin Android and .NET Android (MAUI) susceptible to local denial of service IDs: CVE-2024-27086, GHSA-x674-v45j-fwxw Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-27086 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 17:03 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Low (CVSS 3.9) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: microsoft.identity.client 4.60.3, 4.59.1. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - NuGet microsoft.identity.client: affected >= 4.48.0, < 4.59.1; >= 4.60.0, < 4.60.3; fixed in 4.60.3, 4.59.1 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - NuGet microsoft.identity.client: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on microsoft.identity.client. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-x674-v45j-fwxw (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-x674-v45j-fwxw lists affected ranges: NuGet microsoft.identity.client >=4.48.0 =4.60.0 <4.60.3) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
