Liferay Portal has an XXE vulnerability in Java2WsddTask._format
CVE-2024-25606GHSA-869h-qhfx-w939
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (com.liferay.portal:com.liferay.util.java 14.0.0; com.liferay.portal:release.portal.bom 7.4.3.8; com.liferay.portal:release.dxp.bom 7.4.13.u4, 7.3.10.u12, 7.2.10.fp20), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-25606 Advisory: Liferay Portal has an XXE vulnerability in Java2WsddTask._format IDs: CVE-2024-25606, GHSA-869h-qhfx-w939 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-25606 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:44 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.0) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: com.liferay.portal:com.liferay.util.java 14.0.0; com.liferay.portal:release.portal.bom 7.4.3.8; com.liferay.portal:release.dxp.bom 7.4.13.u4, 7.3.10.u12, 7.2.10.fp20. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven com.liferay.portal:com.liferay.util.java: affected < 14.0.0; fixed in 14.0.0 - Maven com.liferay.portal:release.portal.bom: affected < 7.4.3.8; fixed in 7.4.3.8 - Maven com.liferay.portal:release.dxp.bom: affected >= 7.3.0, < 7.3.10.u12; >= 7.4.0, < 7.4.13.u4; < 7.2.10.fp20; fixed in 7.3.10.u12, 7.4.13.u4, 7.2.10.fp20 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven com.liferay.portal:com.liferay.util.java: check the installed version with your package manager. - Maven com.liferay.portal:release.portal.bom: check the installed version with your package manager. - Maven com.liferay.portal:release.dxp.bom: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on com.liferay.portal:com.liferay.util.java, com.liferay.portal:release.portal.bom, com.liferay.portal:release.dxp.bom. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-869h-qhfx-w939 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-869h-qhfx-w939 lists affected ranges: Maven com.liferay.portal:com.liferay.util.java >=0 =0 =7.3.0 =7.4.0 =0 <7.2.10.fp20) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
