changedetection.io API endpoint is not secured with API token
CVE-2024-23329GHSA-hcvp-2cc7-jrwr
What to do
Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (changedetection-io 0.45.13), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.
This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Summary API endpoint /api/v1/watch/<uuid/history can be accessed by any unauthorized user. Details WatchHistory resource does not have @auth.checktoken annotation, which means it can be accessed without providing x-api-key header. https://github.com/dgtlmoon/changedetection.io/blob/9510345e01ea8e308c339163d8e8b030ce5ac7f1/changedetectionio/api/apiv1.py#L129-L156 PoC 1. Get list of watch with x-api-key: 2. Call for history of snapshots without x-api-key. Expected - 401/403 error. Actual - list of snapshots is listed. Impact Anybody can check one's watch history. However, because unauthorized party first needs to know watch UUID, and the watch history endpoint itself returns only paths to the snapshot on the server, an impact on users' data privacy is minimal.

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2024-23329 Advisory: changedetection.io API endpoint is not secured with API token IDs: CVE-2024-23329, GHSA-hcvp-2cc7-jrwr Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2024-23329 (revision 3, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 13:16 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: Low (CVSS 1.7) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: changedetection-io 0.45.13. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - PyPI changedetection-io: affected >= 0.39.14, <= 0.45.12; fixed in 0.45.13 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - `python -m pip show changedetection-io`: prints the installed version. Run with the environment that serves production active. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on changedetection-io. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://osv.dev/vulnerability/GHSA-hcvp-2cc7-jrwr (OSV record GHSA-hcvp-2cc7-jrwr lists affected ranges: PyPI changedetection-io >=0.39.14 <0.45.13 (fixed)) - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-hcvp-2cc7-jrwr (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-hcvp-2cc7-jrwr lists affected ranges: PyPI changedetection-io >=0.39.14 <=0.45.12) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
