Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

The value set as the DefaultLocaleResolver.LOCALEKEY attribute on the session was not validated while resolving XML definition files, leading to possible path traversal and eventually SSRF/XXE when passing user-controlled data to this key. Passing user-controlled data to this key may be relatively common, as it was also used like that to set the language in the 'tiles-test' application shipped with Tiles. This issue affects Apache Tiles from version 2 onwards. NOTE: This vulnerability only affects products that are no longer supported by the maintainer.

## Affected components
- Maven org.apache.tiles:tiles-core: affected >= 2.0.0
- Maven org.apache.struts:struts-tiles: affected >= 1.3.0, <= 1.3.10
- Maven struts:struts: affected >= 1.1, <= 1.2.9

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.apache.tiles:tiles-core: check the installed version with your package manager.
- Maven org.apache.struts:struts-tiles: check the installed version with your package manager.
- Maven struts:struts: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.apache.tiles:tiles-core, org.apache.struts:struts-tiles, struts:struts.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
