Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Impact This only impacts apps that have the embeddedAsarIntegrityValidation and onlyLoadAppFromAsar fuses enabled. Apps without these fuses enabled are not impacted. This issue is specific to macOS as these fuses are only currently supported on macOS. Specifically this issue can only be exploited if your app is launched from a filesystem the attacker has write access too. i.e. the ability to edit files inside the resources folder in your app installation on Windows which these fuses are supposed to protect against. Workarounds There are no app side workarounds, you must update to a patched version of Electron. Fixed Versions 27.0.0-alpha.7 26.2.1 25.8.1 24.8.3 22.3.24 For more information If you have any questions or comments about this advisory, email us at security@electronjs.org

Advisory: ASAR Integrity bypass via filetype confusion in electron
IDs: CVE-2023-44402, GHSA-7m48-wc93-9g85
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2023-44402 (revision 2, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 12:31 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Medium (CVSS 6.1)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Partial vendor fix; fixed versions by package: electron 27.0.0-alpha.7, 26.2.1, 25.8.1, 24.8.3, 22.3.24. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- npm electron: affected < 22.3.24; >= 24.0.0-alpha.1, < 24.8.3; >= 25.0.0-alpha.1, < 25.8.1; >= 26.0.0-alpha.1, < 26.2.1; >= 27.0.0-alpha.1, < 27.0.0-alpha.7; >= 23.0.0-alpha.1, <= 23.3.13; fixed in 26.2.1, 25.8.1, 22.3.24, 27.0.0-alpha.7, 24.8.3

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- `npm ls electron --all`: lists every installed copy and version, including transitive ones. Run in the project root after `npm ci`.

## Supported action
No complete vendor fix is recorded. Follow the primary source's mitigation guidance and check this record again before closing anything.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on electron.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
