Source description
As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.
Impact An attacker with edit access on any document (can be the user profile which is editable by default) can move any attachment of any other document to this attacker-controlled document. This allows the attacker to access and possibly publish any attachment of which the name is known, regardless if the attacker has view or edit rights on the source document of this attachment. Further, the attachment is deleted from the source document. This vulnerability exists since the introduction of attachment move support in XWiki 14.0 RC1. Patches This vulnerability has been patched in XWiki 14.4.8, 14.10.4, and 15.0 RC1. Workarounds There is no workaround apart from upgrading to a fixed version. # Patch Next advisory brief: CVE-2023-37910 Advisory: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-attachment-api vulnerable to Missing Authorization on Attachment Move IDs: CVE-2023-37910, GHSA-rwwx-6572-mp29 Record: https://patchnext.com/advisories/cve-2023-37910 (revision 1, source checked 26 Oct 2026, 16:17 UTC) Inventory: none attached. This brief comes from a public page and does not say whether any deployment is affected. Severity: High (CVSS 8.1) Exploitation: no confirmed exploitation recorded. Patch Next confirms exploitation only from CISA KEV. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-attachment-api 14.10.4, 14.4.8. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed. ## Affected components - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-attachment-api: affected >= 14.0-rc-1, < 14.4.8; >= 14.5, < 14.10.4; fixed in 14.10.4, 14.4.8 ## Suggested inspection (read-only) - Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-attachment-api: check the installed version with your package manager. ## Supported action Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version. ## Required regression checks - Run the test suite and a production build. - Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-attachment-api. - Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed. ## Rollback considerations - Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward. ## Unresolved questions - Which deployments run an affected version? - Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority. - Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production. ## Sources - Verified: https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-rwwx-6572-mp29 (GitHub-reviewed advisory GHSA-rwwx-6572-mp29 lists affected ranges: Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-attachment-api >=14.0-rc-1 =14.5 <14.10.4) Commands are suggestions: review each one before running it.
