XWiki Platform vulnerable to RXSS via editor parameter - importinline template

CVE-2023-32071GHSA-j9h5-vcgv-2jfm

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-distribution-war 14.10.4, 14.4.8), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Impact It's possible to execute javascript with the right of any user by leading him to a special URL on the wiki targeting a page which contains an attachment. To reproduce: add an attachment to a page (for example, your user profile) add ?xpage=importinline&editor=%22%3E%3Cimg%20src%20onerror=alert(document.domain)%3E to the page view URL as in https://myhost/xwiki/bin/view/XWiki/MyUser?xpage=importinline&editor=%22%3E%3Cimg%20src%20onerror=alert(document.domain)%3E Patches This has been patched in XWiki 15.0-rc-1, 14.10.4 and 14.4.8. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-distribution-war 14.10.4, 14.4.8. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-distribution-war: affected >= 2.2-milestone-1, < 14.4.8; >= 14.5, < 14.10.4; fixed in 14.10.4, 14.4.8

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-distribution-war: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-distribution-war.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
