org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore Open Redirect vulnerability

CVE-2023-29204GHSA-xwph-x6xj-wggv

What to do

Vendor fix available. Upgrade each affected package to the fixed version on its release line (org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore 14.8-rc-1, 14.4.4, 13.10.10), redeploy, then verify what is actually installed.

This page has no inventory attached, so it cannot say whether you are affected. A vendor fix is not proof that your deployment is fixed.

Source description

As published by the source; long descriptions are shortened.

Impact It is possible to bypass the existing security measures put in place to avoid open redirect by using a redirect such as //mydomain.com (i.e. omitting the http:). It was also possible to bypass it when using URL such as http:/mydomain.com. Patches The problem has been patched on XWiki 13.10.10, 14.4.4 and 14.8RC1. Workarounds The only way to workaround the bug is by providing a patched jar of xwiki-platform-oldcore containing the following changes: https://github.com/xwiki/xwiki-platform/commit/e4f7f68e93cb08c25632c126356d218abf192d1e#diff-c445f288d5d63424f56ef13f65514ab4e174a72e979b53b88197c2b7def267cf. Vendor response: Vendor fix available; fixed versions by package: org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore 14.8-rc-1, 14.4.4, 13.10.10. A vendor fix does not mean a deployment is fixed.

## Affected components
- Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore: affected >= 6.0-rc-1, < 13.10.10; >= 14.0-rc-1, < 14.4.4; >= 14.5, < 14.8-rc-1; fixed in 14.8-rc-1, 14.4.4, 13.10.10

## Suggested inspection (read-only)
- Maven org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore: check the installed version with your package manager.

## Supported action
Upgrade each affected component to a fixed version on its release line. For a transitive dependency, upgrade the parent package or add an override or constraint, then regenerate the lockfile. Redeploy every environment that ran an affected version.

## Required regression checks
- Run the test suite and a production build.
- Exercise the features that depend on org.xwiki.platform:xwiki-platform-oldcore.
- Repeat the inspection and confirm that only fixed versions remain installed.

## Rollback considerations
- Keep the previous lockfile and deployment artifact. Rolling back reinstates the vulnerable version, so apply any documented mitigation while you fix forward.

## Unresolved questions
- Which deployments run an affected version?
- Exploitation status can change. Check again before lowering the priority.
- Mark the work resolved only after the fixed version is verified in production.
